Step by Step Guide to using House Sit America as a Home Owner

Step by Step Guide for Home Owners

Register on House Sit America

Firstly, you’ll need to register for a home owner account. Please visit our home owner membership page to get started. You’ll need to fill out a form with your desired account details, including your name, email, username and password. After submitting the registration form, you’ll need to confirm your email by clicking the link in the email we sent you. Once you’ve clicked on that link your account is activated!

Publish your house sitting assignment

Please publish your assignment to our site. Head over to your Dashboard and click on the “Post Listing” link in the side menu. Alternatively, you can click on the “Post Listing” link in your account menu.

Remember to include as much detail as possible in your listing, including tasks, requirements, pet care etc. Although not required, photos make your listing stand out, therefore we recommend you upload a couple.

Contact house sitters, or wait to be contacted.

Now that you have an active listing, you can go ahead and contact house sitters by using our search tool. You can also message house sitters by click the “Contact” button on their profile.

Alternatively, wait for house sitters to get in touch with you. We send out daily email alerts at 4am each day. We also publish your listing to our social media channels.

Communications & Confirmation System

Use our internal messaging system to message each other. Once you have found a suitable house sitter and they have agreed to the terms, please send an invitation to confirm the house sit. This can be done by clicking on the “Invite Sitter” button on the message thread between you and the house sitter.

Your chosen house sitter will then receive an email and can then either accept or decline your invitation. We’ll let you know via email once they do so.

Confirmed house sits will show a messaging form where both you and your house sitter can message each other.

We recommenced you sign an agreement with your house sitter as this ensures clarity on both sides.

Learning phase

Before the house sit officially starts, it’s a good idea to teach and show your house sitter all the task required for the house sit, including pet care, garden care property care etc. Please also have a read of our home-owner checklist which can be found on your Dashboard.

Your all set!

Now you can rest assured knowing your home and pets will be looked after whilst you are away!

Share your experience!
